Image version stacks
A version stack puts several image files behind one card: a shot with six revisions costs one card’s worth of space instead of six, and the one you want to look at is the one you see.
A stack records paths, not pixels: nothing is copied or duplicated, and a board saved with stacks still opens fine in older builds (it shows the current version, it just can’t scrub).
Make a stack
Section titled “Make a stack”Drag one image onto another and hold for half a second. The dragged cards fold into a pile to show the gesture has armed; release, and they stack onto the target. The card then shows the image you dropped, with everything else one scrub away. Works with a multi-selection too: Shift-select a run of versions, drag the pile onto the target, done.
Images whose filenames already carry versions (_v001, Capture_01..16) are
recognized as a group as well.
Use it when: a shot comes back from comps three more times. Drop each new render on the card and the board never grows.
Work the stack
Section titled “Work the stack”- A slider on the card scrubs between versions; a version badge shows which one is up (on the selected card only, so a stacked board stays clean).
- Press and hold the card for a thumbnail panel of every version: click to show one, drop new images into the panel to add them, pick several (Shift-select works) and eject them back onto the board as their own cards. Big ejects land in a tidy grid. The panel’s thumbnail size is remembered.
- A compare dialog puts two versions side by side: click the picture you want the card to show (it gets an accent border and a SHOWN chip), and Swap reorders without changing your pick.
- Every version is searchable from Tab search, typed “Image version” and
captioned
v2 of 5. Picking a row scrubs its card to that version, as a proper undo step.
Crops in a stack
Section titled “Crops in a stack”Two modes, chosen when the stack is created (the choice is remembered):
- Per-version (default): a crop belongs to the version you cropped. Nothing you do to one version touches another.
- Reference: nominate one version as the composition frame and every other version is auto-fitted to its shape. In this mode the crop editor swaps its handles for a Scale slider plus Fit W / Fit H buttons, and aspect-ratio buttons help you frame the reference. The frame keeps its size when a version is scaled.
Use it when: six renders arrive in three different aspect ratios and the client needs them presented identically. Set one as the reference and the rest fall in line.
Versions in the players
Section titled “Versions in the players”The same version groups follow you out of the canvas:
- Media Browser: the version picker shows per-version star ratings, groups can be expanded in the list view to rate any take from the dropdown, and the thumbnail view has Show all versions.
- Player: a version dropdown on the guides row switches between a clip’s versions, found from any one of them.
- Canvas video cards: the version picker sits on the card’s guides bar and dims with the card.
- Image and video generation nodes use the same version detection, so generated takes group like everything else.
Use it when: rating a delivery. Expand the version group in Media Browser’s list, star each take from the dropdown, and sort by rating to find the pick.
